Hortonworks DataPlane is a portfolio of data applications that enable businesses to discover, manage, govern and optimize their data across hybrid environments. DataPlane consists of a unified platform and an extensible set of applications, including:
All these applications operate on top of the platform. DataPlane serves as a management layer across a company’s clusters, whether they are on-premises or in the cloud.
Data Lifecycle Manager
Data Lifecycle Manager (DLM) is a service that safeguards a company’s data by replicating it in on-premises data center(s) or in the cloud. DLM is a DataPlane application that protects not only your data but also the metadata and the security policies associated with it through replication. DLM replicates HDFS and Hive data from on-premises cluster to cloud storage and vice versa.
Data Steward Studio (DSS) enables companies to discover, understand and govern its data across on-premises and cloud clusters. DSS, a DataPlane application enables enterprises to discover and classify data across data lakes and provides all the metadata associated with a particular data asset. In doing so, DSS empowers data stewards to provide trusted data to the Business as well as comply with regulations.
Data Analytics Studio (DAS) provides diagnostic tools and intelligent recommendations to make business analysts and IT teams become self-sufficient and productive. DAS provides IT teams with visibility into cluster performance and provides recommendations to optimize the performance of the queries on Hive tables to proactively optimize cluster operation.
Streams Messaging Manager (SMM) is a management and monitoring tool for Apache Kafka. SMM provides Operations teams with the ability to visualize all the data streams across all Kafka clusters. SMM tracks data lineage and governance from edge-to-enterprise through its integration with Apache Atlas. SMM also extends monitoring and management capabilities with REST endpoints for all of its capabilities.
